QUESTED MONITORS PROVIDE TRUE BLUE SOUND
Situated close to the centre of Plymouth, Deep Blue Studios is a busy centre of audio excellence, which sees the recording and mixing of contemporary music, voiceovers and television soundtracks. Featuring state of the art facilities including a Neve Series 51 Desk, Pro Tools HD2 and Logic Pro 7 suites and a wide range of cutting edge hardware, Deep Blue’s clients range from local bands to high profile professionals like Matt Lucas and David Walliams of Little Britain fame. So, when it came to choosing new monitors for the control room, the requirement was for something that had very high audio quality, yet was versatile enough for monitoring a wide range of audio sources. After A/B testing a range of monitors from different manufacturers, Quested VS3208s were the unanimous choice of the studio staff. “The VS3208s were the perfect size for the control room and they sounded flatter than all the other makes we tried,” says Deep Blue’s Matt Bernard. “Working with them over long periods of time is less fatiguing than with other monitors I’ve used and they had by far the best off-axis sound. When you moved out of the sweet spot with all the others, the sound was gone.” Audio accuracy and high quality are designer Roger Quested’s most fundamental principles. However, Roger is also committed to good customer service. “The VS3208s are very accurate and, I would say, suitable for most styles of music,” Matt adds. “We respect both the Quested brand and Roger as a designer, but the customer service was excellent as well. Roger and Wes Atkinson not only personally delivered the units, they set them up to provide optimum performance in this space, too.” “Clients and visiting engineers have been very impressed by their quality,” he continues. “They have also commented on how well mixes have translated outside the studio.” Which, when it comes to monitors, is the ultimate complement.
