NEW S SERIES MONITORS
The S range, which comprises the S6, S7, S8, S10 and SB10, is the result of two years intensive research and development between Quested’s acoustic and MC2 Audio’s electronic design teams headed by Roger Quested and Terry Clarke, two of pro audio’s most respected designers. The S6 is the smallest monitor in the S Range. It is a self-powered, 2-way active monitor. Its integral electronics and compact size make it an ideal choice where space is at a premium. It is fully magnetically shielded, so can be used in close proximity to CRT monitors and TVs. The S7 is a self-powered, 2-way active monitor. Its integral electronics make it a compact yet powerful choice providing a combined output of 190 W for each monitor. It is fully magnetically shielded, so it can be used in close proximity to CRT monitors or TVs. The S8 is a self-powered, two-way active monitor suited to a wide variety of applications including near to mid-field monitoring for recording and mixing, programming, post production suites, broadcast and surround sound. The S10, which will be released first quarter of 2006, is the largest full range monitor in the S Range and is a three-way active reflex port design. It has been configured with a 10” bass driver, 3” mid and 1” high frequency soft dome to produce 500 Watts of crystal clear, linear class A-B amplification to drive each monitor, one of the advantages of MC2’s amplification expertise. The SB10 subwoofer works with the complete S Range and has a separate 1U controller. Its design has been approached in a different manner than conventional subwoofers. “By far the most popular way of building a studio monitor is to make it self-powered and to incorporate the electronics into the speaker,” comments Quested’s Ian McCarthy. “With the SB10 we have supplied the electronics in a separate 1U box, so rather than being a self-powered monitor it is, in fact, remote powered.” This has some well-founded advantages: as the SB10 is a sub controller that processes the left and right signals feeding the full range monitors, it needs to be set up and configured, a task that is much easier to do when the electronics are easy to access. It is also an advantage to be able to get at the monitoring controls so the monitoring set up can be altered to simulate different scenarios. "These new products are the first to integrate Quested speaker design and MC2 Audio electronics.” continues Ian. “The S range has given us a sound foundation on which to build. Our commitment to promoting the highest standards of audio quality and reliability in manufacturing gives a wide range of users - from professional to home studios – the best possible solution in an affordable package. The future for Quested looks very promising indeed.”
