F1-2010 gets the Quested treatment!

Successful composer delivers 5.1 soundtrack for world-wide game launch

Ian Livingstone

Classically-trained composer, Ian Livingstone, is no stranger to the world of game soundtracks and, from the soaring score of Battlefield 1943 through Batman Begins, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Trivial Pursuit, Predator Concrete Jungle and many more, his Quested 5.1 system delivers everything he needs.

With a Left/Centre/Right layout of 3-way VH3208s and using smaller VH2108s for the surround channels, he knows the final mixes he gives clients will be everything they want for maximum audio impact or subtle emotional backgrounds.  But not everything was straightforward when the system was specified.

“I sourced the system through Andy Parry and Studio Wizard. My original studio was in Manchester, and we needed a custom speaker to act as the centre-channel and Quested were happy to help out.”

Ian is talking about a “Stretch” VH3208, custom-designed in a flat, horizontal configuration, which was needed to accommodate a troublesome chimney breast that was creating a real problem for the studio layout.  “Getting a cabinet made to exactly fit our requirements, yet have the same phase performance and sonic signature as the rest of the system was just perfect for me.”

"Balancing television documentary work such as Daredevils and "My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding", with his successful film efforts "The King Maker" and midi programmer on "Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince", his latest task has been to create the soundtrack to Codemasters forthcoming F1-2010 game."

“I can do writing and preparation right here in my studio, but when it requires an authentic string section, as F1 did, I took an orchestral session at Abbey Road. To be honest, I had forgotten they had the Questeds in the control rooms there!”

“I moved studio a few years ago, and now the VH3208 is perfectly-proportioned to sit under my centre video screen.  I evaluated several monitors originally, including the Questeds, but just love them”
